Graeme Irwin
Regional Leadership Award - 2019
Graeme Irwin has been a pioneer, developer and a leader in quality and affordable education in the Hunter region for over thirty years. Seeing the need for 'whole of life education’, Graeme commenced a small two-teacher school with 25 students in 1982 with a simple yet profound philosophy; he wanted students to enjoy coming to school.
An innovator and big thinker, Graeme has seen this vision grow into an educational force in the region comprising of four mainstream schools, two special schools, early childhood education centres, and a teacher training program. Graeme now has responsibility for more than 4000 students and 600 staff across six schools throughout the region.
As an innovator in education, Graeme is regularly consulted by peak educational groups across Australia.
