Anusha completed the Bachelor of Nursing as an international student from Nepal. Studying and living in Australia during the pandemic, she reflects on her experience.

“My nursing journey at the University of Newcastle was unforgettable! I was grateful for the incredible support I received from the university, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic,”

The support offered from the University during her study was a highlight for Anusha. During tough times, she knew she could rely on the international community to support her with food, supplies and accommodation. “Whenever I faced any issues, the university's dedicated international team was always there to resolve them instantly,” she said.

Not only did Anusha receive support for everyday life, but also from Student Central for her degree. This support gave her confidence in navigating her assessments, and life on campus. “I would always ask Student Central to help me with my self-online enrolment, selection of units, finding   relevant information about university services, or getting student ID and access to library,” she said.

Throughout her degree, Anusha recalls the experience of placement and the excitement and knowledge she gained from this.

“The hospital placements were a highlight of my study experience, as they allowed me to develop my nursing skills and make lifelong friends, I can't forget how much I loved the practical aspect of the course, and how it prepared me to work as an emergency department nurse today.”

Currently working as an emergency department nurse, Anusha is loving every bit of it and hopes to continue her studies by studying psychology to make positive changes to those in need.

“My aim is to keep expanding my knowledge and skills in the field of nursing. With the world in such turmoil, I see an urgent need for mental health support, and I want to be part of the solution,” she said.

During her study, Anusha worked within the nursing sector after receiving job opportunities from the Careers Service. “I got opportunities of job offers as an assistant nurse and enrolled nurse while I was studying from the Career Service,”

Anusha describes her time at the University of Newcastle as the best decision she ever made. She recommends it to anyone looking to develop their skills and make lifelong friendships.

“Joining the University of Newcastle as an international student was the best decision I ever made, as it provided me with unparalleled support, incredible learning opportunities, and lifelong friends - I couldn't recommend it more!” she said.
