Other pathways and study options
If your ATAR was not what you expected, you are from another university or you haven't studied in a while there are a range of other entry pathways and options to study at UON.
If you haven't studied for a while, Open Foundation allows people aged 20 and over to explore interests and get prepared for study at university level. When you successfully complete Open Foundation you can apply for entry to degrees at UON and other Australian Universities.
If you are a recent school leaver aged 18-20 you can get a second chance to study at university with Newstep. Newstep is a one-year foundation studies program that enables you to apply for entry to degrees at UON and other Australian universities.
Our Yapug program helps Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 18 and over to gain skills for entry into UON degrees. You don't have to meet the requirements for entry to university or have any prior experience.
If you want to study one or more subjects at university without advancing to a degree or diploma you can choose non-award study. You can apply for non-award admission as preliminary work for a higher degree, for professional requirements or because of an interest in the area.
If you are currently studying at another university you can complete courses at UON for credit towards your degree.
If you are an international student looking to study at UON we have a range of entry options. You can either meet the academic requirements or attend the UON Language Centre and the Newcastle International College (NIC) for pathways into UON.
