NEW DEGREE - Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours)

Interested in a career as a pharmacist? You can now study a Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) at the University of Newcastle.

The Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) at the University of Newcastle will provide students with the theoretical knowledge, practical experience and attributes to drive clinical leadership in health care while also providing a framework to influence the management of pharmaceutical services in Australia and globally.

You will be equipped to provide a vital primary health care role, counselling people on the best use and management of medications, providing advice on the symptoms and management of common ailments, preparing and formulating medications and educating the community on a wide range of health and well-being matters.

In particular you will study:

• Core biomedical sciences, including anatomy and physiology
• Dosage formulations
• Chemistry
• Drug design and discovery
• Pharmacotherapeutics
• Mental health first aid
• Epidemiology and pharmacoeconomics
• Clinical leadership and communication

Clinical experience and knowledge is a focus of the program, obtained through placements in community, hospital and rural pharmacies and through multi-disciplinary simulated learning activities in our fully functioning demonstration pharmacy.
