Wollotuka Institute leads local NAIDOC celebrations

The University of Newcastle’s Wollotuka Institute played a leading role in NAIDOC celebrations across the Hunter region this month.

The week of celebrations included flag raising ceremonies, a Solidarity concert, NAIDOC marches and family fun days held around the local area.

"We hope that our presence at NAIDOC Week events will encourage prospective Indigenous students to consider tertiary study,” said Leanne Holt, Director of Indigenous Student Engagement, Employment and Collaboration at the Wollotuka Institute.

The University of Newcastle is a leader in providing education for Indigenous Australians. The enrolment of Indigenous students is almost double the sector average and in recent years, enrolments of Indigenous students have grown more than 20 percent.
