
Two University of Newcastle students have received Australia Day awards for their inspiring work as ambassadors for fellow youth.
Declan Clausen who is currently studying a combined degree in environmental engineering and science, was named Newcastle’s Young Citizen of the Year for his outstanding contribution to environmental sustainability.
The young environmentalist has instigated and driven countless environmental sustainability projects and has lobbied government groups to address environmental concerns in the Hunter region.
Business and Law student, Andreena Kardamis (pictured), was named Lake Macquarie’s Young Citizen of the Year for her work with the Lake Macquarie Youth Advisory Council where she is currently serving her second year as Chair.
Andreena has worked with the Lake Macquarie Youth Development office to implement a life mentors and coaches program in the Lake Macquarie area. She is also a Hunter Life Education ambassador and has helped organise International Youth Day celebrations.
