Mid Year Entry - Applications now open »

Tips on choosing preferences

If you aren’t exactly sure about which preferences to select, don’t worry. It’s important that you get your application in on-time but once you have applied there is plenty of time to change these preferences.

The change of preference period allows you to reconsider your preference list and make changes to your application. The closing date for change of preferences for main round offers is Friday 4 January, 2013.

Tips to help you:

  • Make sure you list your preferences in order of what you really want to do. You will be offered a place in the first course on your list that you are eligible for.
  • You should consider all degrees related to your area of interest. For example, at the University of Newcastle, psychology can be studied as a degree (Bachelor of Psychology) or as a major within our social science, science and arts degrees.
  • Use your last preferences to select degrees that may be a stepping stone into the career you want, or a second career choice. For example, our arts and science degrees allow you the flexibility to choose from a broad range of courses across the University, and to tailor the program to match your specific interests.
