In a competitive employment market, graduating with an Honours degree gives you a distinct advantage and graduates often pursue higher positions and salaries.
It’s the development of skills combined with the academic achievement that makes Honours graduates more sought after by employers. An Honours degree demonstrates that you possess a high degree of personal initiative, that you have strong organisational skills, and are capable of undertaking a focussed research project and bringing it to a successful outcome.
An Honours degree is an opportunity to explore your area of interest and develop your knowledge and skills in research and theory development. You have the opportunity to design and research a topic and you will work closely with well-established researchers in high quality research environments. At the beginning of your studies, you will be appointed a research supervisor to assist and mentor you.

Honours is a separate and additional year of study following the completion of a bachelor’s degree. This is a very different experience to your earlier years of study. There are fewer formal classes and more individual work.
Honours requirements are embedded into and completed as part of the bachelor’s degree. There is no additional year added to your bachelor’s degree. For more information, contact your Faculty.
An Honours degree can be undertaken in a variety of research areas and provides you with the necessary experience and knowledge for progression to a Research Higher Degree.
