Maitland Clinical School
The new Maitland Hospital at Metford opened in 2022. It has 340 beds offering patient-centred healthcare to the growing community of Maitland and the Hunter region. These include emergency services, surgery, general medicine, maternity care, paediatric services, rehabilitation, renal dialysis and outpatient clinics.
The new Maitland hospital includes many state-of-the-art features and some of the key benefits include
- A new emergency short stay unit, 12 chemotherapy chairs, additional MRI and CT scanners
- Surgical, maternity, paediatric, palliative, renal dialysis and outpatient clinics
- A helipad with a dedicated lift connecting directly to the emergency department
- More than 800 parking spaces for staff and patients.

- Dedicated student space including HNELHD networked computers and internet access
- Bookable tutorial/meeting rooms on every floor
- Lockers and access to a shared kitchen/lunchroom
- Café
- Free on-site parking and ample street parking

Accessibility
The closest train station to Maitland Hospital is Victoria Street Station, which is a 15-minute walk to the Hospital. Local busses also run regularly to the Hospital.

The University of Newcastle’s Maitland Clinical School is committed to providing world class education and research. There are dedicated staff on site who can provide a high level of support to all students.
Joint Medical Program students, enrolled at either University of Newcastle or University of New England, can nominate for placements at the Maitland Clinical School in the latter years of the program.
