Biography
Cassandra Taylor is an Associate Lecturer in the School of Nursing and Midwifery, University of Newcastle. Cassandra commenced working at UON in 2009, as a sessional staff member working as tutor and clinical facilitator. In 2017, Cassandra commenced as the Simulated Learning Environment Manager of the School of Nursing and Midwifery. Cassandra became a full time Associate Lecturer in 2020. Cassandra is enthusiastic about quality teaching, passionate about providing students with the best learning opportunities to extend their practical knowledge and assisting in developing safe effective competent nurses. This passion is seeded in from her previous employment as an expert clinician, experienced tutor and Facilitator. She enjoys working with undergraduate students and participating in shaping the future of our nurses.
Cassandra completed her Bachelor of Nursing at UON in 2004. She went on to complete a new graduate program at the Central Coast where she gained broad nursing experience working in a variety of clinical settings early in her career including Paediatrics, Accident & Emergency, Oncology, Surgical and Medical/Rehab wards. Her true passion is Oncology nursing where she spent most of her career specialising in this field of nursing. In 2007, Cassandra became a Clinical Nursing Specialist in Oncology and in 2010 she became the Nursing Unit Manager of an Oncology/Medical ward and Chemotherapy Day Unit before commencing work at UON. Her passion for clinical experience remains strong and she has 20 year’s experience working as a nurse.
Cassandra commenced post graduate studies early in her career and obtained a Graduate Certificate in Cancer Nursing, Diploma in Clinical Teaching and Education and a Master’s Degree of Clinical Nursing/Advanced Clinical Practice. During her time working as the Simulated Learning Environment Manager Cassandra actively participated in both formal and informal research in the SLE. She continues to work on research teams with her colleagues in the areas of cultural practice and health promotion. Cassandra’s current focus is on completing her PhD studies in the area of Oncology, her specific interest is in Endometrial Cancer research.
