Past enabling students

If you have graduated from the Open Foundation, Newstep or Yapug programs within the last five years, please follow this application process for the 2024 intake.

Check your eligibility

  • Completed Open Foundation within the last five years
  • Have completed a minimum of one year full-time equivalent tertiary study (80 units)
  • Meet the standard minimum academic criteria
  • Be able to demonstrate sustained socioeconomic disadvantage including financial hardship, and at least two equity indicators from the eligibility list

Register to sit the UCAT ANZ

Registration closes 16 May 2025. UCAT ANZ testing begins 1 July and concludes 5 August 2025.  All enquiries concerning UCAT ANZ should be directed to the UCAT ANZ office.

Final bookings will be accepted until Wednesday 30 May at 11:59pm AEST and will incur the late fee of AUD $85.

2026 NSW Health Rural Career Scholarships: eligible students can apply for a scholarship to the value of $1,200 for UCAT ANZ registration and associated expenses.  For further information see here.

In the application please tick the box to indicate you completed a University of Newcastle Enabling Program in the last five years and wish to apply to the JMP via the Excellence through Equity Pathway to Medicine. Please also email excelthroughequity@newcastle.edu.au to confirm your application.

To be considered for the Excellence Through Equity Pathway, please ensure you list all prior educational qualifications on your UAC application including your Enabling Pathways program.

UAC will assess all applicants for academic eligibility.

The Joint Medical Program is now included in the Educational Access Scheme. Through the Educational Access Scheme (EAS) you can get up to four additional adjustment points if you have experienced educational or other disadvantage. For more information about the EAS see here.

Supporting documents

OCTOBER 2025

Eligible students will then be identified and invited to submit supporting documents to be considered for the Excellence Through Equity Pathway:

  • Personal Statement (1 page or 2 minute video)
  • Demonstrate sustained socioeconomic disadvantage including financial hardship, and at least two of the additional equity indicators

Identified students will be sent an invitation in early October and the supporting documents will be due by 11:59pm on Sunday 12 October 2025.

Pathway eligibility confirmed

MID OCTOBER 2025

Applicants will be notified of the outcome of the submission of supporting documents.

If you demonstrate these eligibility criteria in your application, a lower UCAT ANZ threshold will be applied, giving you a greater opportunity for selection for interview.

Selection process

NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2025

Applicants who have met the both the academic and equity criteria are invited to participate in the standard Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine (Joint Medical Program) Multiple Skills Assessment (MSA) process.

Offers made

JANUARY 2026

Successful students are made an offer into the Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine (Joint Medical Program). Offers must be accepted within 7 days.

All shortlisted candidates will be notified of the outcome via email.
