Pathway Application Process

Process for Current Enabling students

Applications open from 3pm October 19 2020

If you are currently enrolled in Newstep or Open Foundation and are due to finish in Semester 2 2020, please follow this application process for the Excellence Through Equity Pathway to Medicine.

Please note: Current students applying via the Excellence Through Equity Pathway are not required to have completed the University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT).


Submit Application

BY MIDNIGHT SUNDAY 22 NOVEMBER 2020

1a. DIRECT APPLICATION FORM

Complete a direct application form via the Your Next Move website:

  • Tick the "I would like to be considered for the Excellence Through Equity Pathway to Medicine" box on the preferences page.
  • Select 3 back up degrees as your preference. We recommend that you include a degree from the Guaranteed Admissions Scheme.

1b. SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS

Submit your documents via email, clearly indicating your name, program and student number:

  • Personal Statement (1 page or 2 minute video).
  • Documentation demonstrating at least 3 equity criteria

You will receive confirmation of the successful receipt of your documents.

Applications Assessed

Your application will be assessed and shortlisting candidates for the final selection process will begin.

Main Round Direct Offers

MONDAY 21 DECEMBER 2020

The shortlist will not be confirmed before the main round of direct offers on Monday 21 December.

Please accept an offer into one of your other 3 preferences if you receive one.

If you are later successful in receiving an offer to one of the 6 places via the Excellence Through Equity Pathway, this first acceptance will be automatically resolved.

Shortlist Confirmed

LATE DECEMBER 2020

Up to 20 students will be shortlisted based on their academic performance and satisfaction of the equity criteria.

All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application via email.

Selection Process

JANUARY 2021

The shortlisted applicants participate in the standard Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine (Joint Medical Program) Multiple Skills Assessment (MSA) process.

Final Ranking

Final ranking of applicants based on selection process.

Offers Made

THURSDAY 4 FEBRUARY 2021

Up to 6 applicants are made an offer into the Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine (Joint Medical Program) at 7:30am on Thursday 4 February 2021. Offers must be accepted within 7 days.

All shortlisted candidates will be notified of the outcome via email.

Process for Past Enabling Students

Past Newstep and Open Foundation Students should ensure they meet the eligibility requirements for the Excellence Through Equity Pathway before applying. Eligible Past Enabling Students should follow the 3-step application process on the How to apply page.

To be considered for the Excellence Through Equity Pathway, please ensure you list all prior educational qualifications on your UAC application including your Enabling Pathways program.

Eligible students will then be identified and invited to submit supporting documents to be considered for the Excellence Through Equity Pathway:

  • Personal Statement (1 page or 2 minute video).
  • Documentation demonstrating at least 3 equity criteria

If you demonstrate your eligibility with this documentation, a lower UCAT threshold will be applied, giving you a greater opportunity for selection for interview.
