Career Summary
Biography
Courtney Rubie is a proud Wiradjuri woman, raised on Wiradjuri and Awabakal Countries. Courtney is an Associate Lecturer at the Wollotuka Institute, where her work is informed by her lived experience as a Wiradjuri woman and educator.
With 13 years of experience in education, Courtney brings a strong background in Aboriginal Education, and secondary teaching in NSW public schools.
At the heart of Courtney's work is a commitment to ensuring that pre-service teachers engage meaningfully with Aboriginal Education. In her classroom, Courtney positions students to challenge themselves through critical self-reflection, and to understand that Aboriginal Education is not merely a curriculum requirement, but a professional obligation grounded in relationality, respect, and a commitment to listening to learn.
Courtney’s research interests focus on Aboriginal Education in school contexts. She is passionate about lifting expectations – within initial teacher education and across the profession – to ensure engagement with Aboriginal Education is authentic, meaningful, and responsive.
As an early career academic, Courtney is actively expanding her research practice, guided by the question of how she can continue to reciprocate, contribute to, and strengthen the ongoing work in Aboriginal Education.
