Career Summary
Biography
Robert is a military historian who is primarily focused on the cultural and social effects of war upon Australian society. His doctoral research extensively examined the interactions between Commonwealth intelligence services, Australian Government departments and Korean War ex-POWs during the Cold War, and the legacy of their captivity experience upon the conduct after capture training of subsequent generations of Australian Defence Force personnel. The experiences of this conflict’s POWs after their release from Chinese prison camps in North Korea in 1953, remain understudied in existing historiography. Robert’s undergraduate research regarding this subject matter for his Honours thesis, was awarded the prestigious C.E.W. Bean Prize for military history from the Australian Army History Unit in 2020.
