Biography
Nicholas Watson is a Research Assistant at the Wollotuka Institute for Indigenous Education and Research at the University of Newcastle. He has a Bachelor of Arts from the University, with a major in Linguistics, and minors in Aboriginal Studies and Ancient History.
Nicholas's research focuses on linguistic analysis of Indigenous language, and collaborative development of language education resources. He works with the language team at Wollotuka, providing insights into articulatory phonetics and phonological processes. Nicholas also collaborates with other members of the team to engage in semantic analysis through yarning methodology.
Nicholas has also been a choral singer for over a decade. His experience with practical phonetics has been intertwined with singing in numerous languages, the phonetic mechanics of singing, as well as recitative performances of several ancient languages for historical cultural reproduction.
Nicholas has experience in dialect and accent coaching, and uses this expertise to accessibly explain phonetic and phonological processes for both interdisciplinary research and educational resources.
