Career Summary

Biography

I have always loved storytelling, a passion instilled in me by my father and grandmother since I was a child.

I'm a Worimi man from Karuah. I have come full circle to teach at the Wollotuka Institute after graduating with a B/Communication from UoN and spending more than a decade in the Australian News Media.

My major research focus is looking at the ways Indigenous Knowledge Systems can guide the how we live and learn with evolving technology. For my PhD, I am applying this to the ways I teach students about Generative AI. I have created a module using storytelling methodologies to foreground cultural respect and integrity when using these technologies in my courses.

My father was a lecturer here for 27 years and my grandmother helped establish what is now known as Wollotuka in the 1980s - and I am so proud to be able to play a part in continuing a legacy of excellence in Aboriginal Education.

I was previously at National Indigenous Television for 5 years as Head of Digital and Executive Producer of News and Current Affairs. I also hosted programs including NITV News on occasion and the Rugby League program Over The Black Dot. I have also worked as a Sports Journalist at the ABC, Channel 9 and Sky News.

My family is well connected throughout the region and we are actively involved in Gathang language revitalisation as well as holding camps, including cultural burns and mapping at Barrington Tops and around Worimi Country.

I have a passion for capturing important and also everyday stories about Aboriginal life and I love passing on any skills I have learned to the next generation.
