Dr Joanna Holland

Joanna studied medicine with the University of Sydney.  As a student, Joanna developed an interest in the notion of 'patient journey' and wrote a paper on the doctor patient relationship. Originally training in Psychiatry, Joanna became concerned about the management of critical incidents, and published independently on the need for morbidity and mortality meetings in psychiatric institutions.  This led to a broader interest in theories of error management, and the completion of a Masters in Occupational Health and Safety (with distinction) through the University of Newcastle.  Joanna now works in the private sector as a medical contractor in the field of Occupational and Environmental Medicine. Living in the Hunter Valley, much of her industrial experience involves the coal chain and allied transport and shipping industries. Joanna works on site with 24 hour industries in mining and transport. Her current research focuses on the best practice integration of driver drowsiness detection devices in fatigue management plans.
