Biography
Brooke began her undergraduate studies at Griffith University on the Gold Coast. Here she completed a Bachelor of Communication with a double major in Politics and Public Relations. Along the course of the degree, Brooke received the Griffith Award for Academic Excellence in 2008 and 2010.
Brooke returned to her hometown in 2012 and completed a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in the Discipline of Politics and International Relations at the University of Newcastle. Under the supervision of Professor Jim Jose, Brooke was awarded Class 1 Honours for her thesis: 'The Mechanisms of Persuasive Language: an Analysis of Australian Federal Election Campaign Speeches'.
Brooke returned to the University of Newcastle in 2014 to embark on research which builds on her Honours work. Brooke's research on Australian political communication explores the power and function of persuasive language and rhetorical strategies in federal election campaign speechmaking. Brooke also had the pleasure of researching as a 2016 Summer Scholar at the Australian Prime Ministers Centre, Museum of Australian Democracy, Canberra.
During the course of her early post-grad years at UON, Brooke also taught a number of undergraduate Politics courses in the Discipline of Politics and International Relations at both Ourimbah and Callaghan campuses.
Brooke completed her PhD in August 2018 and was awarded her Doctor of Philosophy degree in February 2019.
