Career Summary

Biography

Bianca Alcevski is a lecturer in Diagnostic Radiography with specialised experience in rural and remote practice. She graduated with a Bachelor of Medical Radiation Science (Diagnostic Radiography) with Distinction from the University of Newcastle. Bianca has been employed at The University of Newcastle since 2021.

Bianca’s clinical experience spans General Radiography, Operating Theatre, Trauma, Fluoroscopy, Dental Radiography, DEXA, and Intensive Care Imaging. While working in Alice Springs (Northern Territory), she practiced as a Computed Tomography (CT) Radiographer and had experience in emergency and trauma medical imaging in a remote setting. Bianca worked on a rotating basis as the sole radiographer in Tennant Creek Hospital, a remote hospital in the Barkly Region. During her time in Alice Springs, she facilitated the training and accreditation of registered nurses and general practitioners in the Central Australia region in obtaining their Remote X-ray Operator licenses and conducted site visits to remote community health clinics. Bianca is currently registered through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

After her clinical experience in the Northern Territory, Bianca developed an interest in culturally safe and responsive practice to meet the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients in Australia. She began working as a tutor at the Wollotuka Institute at the University of Newcastle in the Indigenous Student Success Program(ISSP). This saw her mentoring Indigenous Radiography students to support them to succeed at university and into the the workforce. She has since been involved in the Wollotuka Engagement Camp with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander high school students in the Hunter region to educate students about pursuing a future in diagnostic radiography.

Bianca is currently enrolled in a Higher Degree by Research with a focus in anatomy education research and the use of cross sectional imaging. This research is being undertaken in association with the School of Biomedical Sciences and Pharmacy (Anatomy) at UoN with support from the Centre for Human Anatomy Education at Monash University.
