Career Summary
Biography
Dr Nicole Mockler is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Education, with a background in secondary school teaching (History and English curriculum) and teacher professional learning. In the past she has held senior leadership roles in secondary schools, and after completing her PhD in Education at the University of Sydney in 2008, she joined the University of Newcastle in 2009, where she is based at the Central Coast Campus. Nicole's research interests are in education policy and politics, professional learning and curriculum and pedagogy, and she also continues to work with teachers and schools in these areas.
Nicole has held a number of administrative roles at the University of Newcastle, including Deputy Head of School (Teaching and Learning) for the School of Education, Central Coast Campus Co-ordinator for the School of Education, Secondary Program Convenor and Assistant Director of the Professional Experience Unit. In 2010, Nicole was the inaugural Education Research Institute Newcastle Early Career Research Fellow.

Nicole has collaborated on research and writing with a range of scholars both nationally and internationally.
Nicole has a well-established research collaboration with Susan Groundwater-Smith of the University of Sydney, with whom she has authored over 25 books, book chapters, journal articles and conference papers over the past decade. She has also co-authored with Jane Mitchell (Charles Sturt University), Karin Ronnerman (University of Gothenborg), Petra Ponte (Hogeschool Utrecht) and Judyth Sachs (Macquarie University).

Nicole has a professional background in school leadership and management and in the past has worked as a Head Teacher, Director of Learning and Director of Professional Learning in a School context. From 2005 to 2011 she was a member of the Board of a large non-Government school in Sydney and Book Reviews Editor of an international journal. She is currently an elected member of the Executive and Communications Co-ordinator of the Australian Association for Research in Education.
Nicole has worked in variety of administrative roles at the University of Newcastle and in the past has been the Deputy Head of School (Teaching and Learning) for the School of Education.

Since her arrival at the University of Newcastle in January 2009, she has been responsible for teaching undergraduate, Honours and postgraduate courses in the areas of research design and methodology, History curriculum, curriculum theory, ICTs and pedagogy and professional practice and experience.
