Research expertise

The main focus of my research is the Male germ-line: from primordial germ cells in the male fetus through until mature spermatozoa produced in the adult. In particular the research is focused on Telomere biology and the effect of oxidative stress on the germ-line. Telomeres are repetitive stretches of DNA that book-end the end of the mammalian chromosomes and protect the genome from damage, and the length of the telomeres determine the number of replications a cell can undergo. The role of telomere length in the fertilizing sperm has on the offspring is a exciting new area of study in Reproductive Biology, combining the areas of oxidative stress, DNA damage, telomere biology and early embryonic development.
