Career Summary

Biography

I am currently a Senior Lecturer in the School of Education. After completing a minor thesis in education in 1999 I commenced a PhD in the field of finance. This doctoral study lead to the development of high level statistical skills, particularly in regard to the analysis of time series. I was awarded my PhD in Financial Mathematics in 2006 and since that time I have continued to work as a researcher and teacher in mathematics education in addition to publishing extensively from my PhD.

Qualifications

  • PhD, Monash University, 11/05/2006
  • Master of Educational Studies, University of Newcastle, 04/02/2000
  • Diploma in Education, University of Newcastle, 31/12/1984
  • Bachelor of Science, University of Newcastle, 31/12/1983

Research expertise

I completed my PhD in Financial Mathematics in 2006. The PhD was highly quantitative and examined methods of modelling the performance of managed funds. More recently, I am examining the notion of 'pedagogical content knowledge' and how it can be incorporated into mathematics teacher education programs. I am also interested in the effective integration of new technologies as educational tools both in the higher education setting and in relation to the teaching of mathematics in schools.
