Conjoint Senior Lecturer

School of Humanities and Social Science (English)

Career Summary

Biography

Dr Pollnitz's interests include contemporary Australian Literature, particularly poetry, which he has written about in articles and reviews. While his interests in English poetry extend into the nineteenth-century, his research is focused on the Modernist period, notably D H Lawrence. He is preparing a variorum of the Poems for the Cambridge University Press edition of Lawrence's Works.

Research Expertise
Most of my publications have been on twentieth-century writers, specifically poets, with a focus on D. H. Lawrence. Increasingly, the articles on D. H. Lawrence have also been focused on this writers' poetry, and on a series of articles about the transmission of the texts of Lawrence's poems and the problems of editing his poetry for the Cambridge University Press edition of Lawrence's _Works_. In addition to this focus, however, I have also regularly published on later twentieth-century Australian poets, notably Les Murray, John Scott and Alan Wearne. Included among this work is an article on the Australian verse novel.

Teaching Expertise
I have taught courses in English literature from the eighteenth to the twentieth centuries, but my specialist periods are English Romanticism, and Modernism. Currently, I also coordinate and teach courses on creative writing and a course on the uses of poetry in the secondary and primary classroom. As a published poet, I am frequently called on to supervise postgraduate students, both novelists and poets, in the Creative Writing program.

Administrative Expertise
I have served as head of the discipline of English and convenor of the Honours English program, but my preference is for coordinating of undergraduate courses.
