Career Summary
Biography
After acheiving 1st Class Honours as an undergraduate graphic design student in 2000, I took a position as a web designer and corporate identity designer at an ISP where I became the leading member of a small team of programmers and graphic artists. Soon after, I took a position with iStockphoto as an inspector for international digital illustration contributors, and was one of the key speakers at their 'Vectorypse' digital illustration conference in Melbourne in 2008. During this same period, I accepted a position at the University of Newcastle contributing to the Visual Communication Design Program, delivering courses on graphic design technology, digital illustration, design principles and drawing.
My passion for design education lead me to pursue a research masters in education entitled 'Designing PowerPoint Presentations Using Cognitive Load Theory and Visual Communication Principles' which was completed in 2013. It describes several aspects of both education and design theory that bring a new sense of clarity to instructional design as it applies to delivering university lectures. After a short departure from academic activity managing projects in the construction industry, I returned to UoN as an Instructional Designer, working with the Centre for Teaching and Learning.
