Career Summary
Biography
Bettina Hodgson is a visual communication designer and creative practioner. Her research focuses on visual narrative/story design, transmedia storytelling, transdisciplinary design, creative process and practice. She is interested in how design, creativity and culture interact to make meaning.
Bettina’s work is predominantly practice-based, evolving from her professional practice in the creative industries, print and digital publishing, brand management and creative content development for print – including art, design and children’s picturebook titles – film/motion, web and media projects.
Her current work explores story design for children’s picturebooks, creative learning, work-integrated learning, visual thinking, and writing in pictures/seeing in words. Bettina is currently a PhD research scholar with an RTP scholarship.

A Humanities Startup Workshop run by the University of Newcastle’s Centre for 21st Century Humanities in conjunction with Slingshot has assisted in the creation of a design service and research studio within the School of Creative Industries.
