Biography
Dr Alan Anderson is a Lecturer in the Centre for Teaching and Learning at the University of Newcastle. He is a member of the CTL Blended and Online Learning Development (BOLD) team and Program Convenor of the Graduate Certificate in the Practice of Tertiary Teaching. Alan has extensive experience in online teaching and course design for blended and distance delivery. His research in these areas has focused on how multimedia technologies can be used for the purposes of learning in higher education, distance education schooling and vocational education and training. In previous academic positions Alan lectured in Music at the University of Otago NZ and in the Social Sciences and Contemporary Music at Southern Cross University, Australia.

Collaboration
Between 2007-2009 Alan worked on a successful University of Newcastle led Australian Research Council Linkage project titled Interactive Distance Learning: Opening Our Eyes. Led by Professor Stephen Crump, Pro Vice-Chancellor (External Relations) at the University of Newcastle, this project investigated the user experiences of IDL in primary schools and in vocational education and training (VET) in New South Wales and the Northern Territory. Alan is currently involved in a pilot project that builds on the success of the IDL project. Also led by Professor Stephen Crump, in association with the University of the South Pacific, this pilot project will investigate people’s use and experience of a satellite-based communications system being newly deployed for Pacific Island nations by the University of the South Pacific.
