Auchmuty Library
The Auchmuty Library is located on the Western side of the Callaghan campus near the Shortland Union Building. As the campus hub for all your study needs, our spaces are vibrant and engaging places to meet, read, study and learn.
Auchmuty Library offers a range of study zones that cater for both silent focused study and collaborative group work. Our bookable group study rooms include zoom screens for video calls and screen-sharing, whilst our individual study pods can be used for video calls and lecture participation. Film and Podcast studios can be used to film video on a green screen or record an audio presentation
- 24-hour spaces — Auchmuty Information Common (AIC) and Learning Lounge. Auchmuty Library has two 24 hour spaces, both of which have PCs, bring your own device (BYOD) stations, wifi access, printing facilities, student kitchen and lounge areas.
The AIC is located on Level 2 of the Auchmuty Library and provides 24 access to laptop loans, BYOD stations, PCs and Macs, with group study rooms, collaborative and silent study spaces. It also houses our multifaith prayer and reflection room, which includes a foot-washing station.
The Learning Lounge is a relaxed and collaborative space located on Level 3 of the Auchmuty Library and features a lounge-style learning environment.
Outside of Library operating hours when the spaces are unstaffed, you will need your staff or student ID card in order to gain swipe access.
- Postgraduate spaces — Located in L404, Flowers Room, this area offers individual and group study spaces with PCs, room for laptops and access to review and presentation facilities, meeting spaces, printers and lockers. Entry is via student card swipe access and is restricted to postgraduate students and staff only.
To activate swipe access to the Callaghan postgraduate rooms on your Student Card, please email your request to 16500@newcastle.edu.au. Please allow up to 5 days for your request to be processed.
- Special Collections — Home of the historical and cultural memory of the University and its regional context, our Special Collections are located on level 2 of the Auchmuty Library.
- Auchmuty Library MakerSpace — Providing a place to escape the rigours of study and explore, design, experience and build through self-creative and self-directed learning.
- Media Rooms — Are film and podcast studios provide students with the facilities to produce high quality audio and video content for content creation. The Film Studios each contain a one touch recording set up with video camera, green screen, and configurable lighting. The Podcast Room contains an easy-to-use mixing desk and microphones for up to 3 users.
- Carers and kids room — Located in room L325 on level 3 of the Library, the space provides a child-friendly environment where you can supervise your children while you study and is available during Library hours. Please book the room via Room Bookings
- Parents room — Our Parents Room is located in room L324 on level 3 of the Library and features everything you'll need to care for your baby, including a comfortable chair, fridge, microwave, and baby change table
- Multifaith reflection and prayer room — Including foot-washing facilities. Located on level 2, behind Sprout café
- Parray Yayirri — Located on level 3, this is a space that Indigenous students can use to study and connect with their peers. The space is open during Library hours and does not need to be booked. It includes three desktop computers, a whiteboard, small table with three chairs and a printer.
- Printing and photocopy facilities
- Computers — students and staff can log on to computers using their student or staff ID and password. Please see staff in the Service Zones for assistance
- Loanable laptops — students can borrow Windows laptops 24/7 via the Laptop Loans station in the Auchmuty Information Common print area
- Sprout café — located in the Auchmuty Information Common
Mobility Parking
There are dedicated disabled parking spaces for students who hold a valid RMS Mobility Permit near the Auchmuty Courtyard and the Shortland Building. All accessible parking around the campus can be located using the interactive maps.
Library Spaces
Auchmuty Library offers accessible group study rooms, computers, desks, bathrooms, and student kitchens.
Lift Access
Lift access is available to all levels of the Library. Students can access the Library via the lift through the Auchmuty Information Common on Level 2. Lifts can be located using our interactive map.
24-hour Spaces
The Auchmuty Information Common and the Learning Lounge are both 24-hour spaces for students to use the Library outside of staffed hours.
Please note that outside of Library open hours the Auchmuty Information Common is the only 24-hour space in our Auchmuty Library that is wheelchair accessible. If you require access to the Learning Lounge outside of staffed hours, please contact Campus Security for assistance.
Silent, quiet and low-sensory spaces
There are low-sensory booths and adjustable lighting in reading rooms 1, 2 and 4. Level 4 has two silent zones. The Chill Out Lounge has bean bags and adjustable lighting. The multi-faith reflection room can also be used as a quiet, low-sensory space.
Adaptive Technology Centre
During Library opening hours, students can access assistive technology, sensory relief, and ergonomic furniture in the Adaptive Technology Centre on Level 3. During staffed hours, AccessAbility staff are available to offer support.
Accessible Bathrooms
We have inclusive and accessible bathrooms on all levels of the Library, including in the 24 hour spaces. All-inclusive and accessible bathrooms across the Library and the University can be located using the interactive map.
Accessing Resources
Students can access resources including eJournals and eBooks, inter-library loans and an extensive range of various databases. Additionally, students registered with AccessAbility can receive support in accessing resources located at our Libraries.

Newcastle City Campus Library
The Library at NUspace on Level 1 houses a dynamic collection of high demand and core items to support the needs of staff and students located at the Newcastle City campus.
After hours
Books can be returned to the library via returns chutes either immediately outside the library on level 1 or on the building's exterior in the courtyard off Hunter Street.

Mobility Parking
Students and staff who hold a RMS Mobility Permit may use Newcastle City Council Accessible Parking in the vicinity of NUSpace. Please refer to the Newcastle City Council website for further information in relation to accessible parking in Newcastle City.

Ourimbah Campus Library
The Ourimbah Library at the Central Coast campus provides services to both the University of Newcastle staff and TAFE NSW. It is a hub for all your study needs — offering vibrant spaces and engaging places to meet, read, study and learn.
Functioning as a multi-sector library allows our users access to a variety of resources provided by both the University and TAFE NSW.
Ourimbah Library offers a range of study zones that cater for both silent focused study and collaborative group work. Our bookable group study rooms include Zoom screens for video calls and screen-sharing.
24-hour spaces — The Ourimbah Information Commons (OIC) is located across Level 1 and 2 of the Ourimbah Library. Services include wifi and laptop facilities and access to PCs, scanners, group study rooms, printing and photocopying. Snack and drink machines, Student Kitchen with food preparation area, multifaith prayer room and lounge areas are also available.
Outside of Library operating hours when the spaces are unstaffed, you will need your staff or student ID card in order to gain swipe access.
Ourimbah TAFE students can apply for a University of Newcastle Access Card. Completed forms should be taken to the TAFE Services Centre, then authorised at the student hub.
Postgraduate spaces — Located in A2.27, on Level 2, this study room includes PCs and lockers. Entry is via student card swipe access and is restricted to postgraduate students and staff only.
Ourimbah Library MakerSpace — Located in room 209 on Level 2 of the Ourimbah Library. MakerSpace is a unique learning space where you can problem solve, learn, experiment, create and remix ideas utilising technology whilst collaborating with others in a supported environment.
- Carers and kids room — Located in room A2.09 on level 2 of the Library, the space provides a child-friendly environment where you can supervise your children while you study and is available during Library hours. Please book in via Room Bookings.
- You must have your children present to use the space and are solely responsible for their safety and actions at all times.
- Children must be supervised and may not be left unattended in the room.
- Please use the disinfectant wipes provided to keep the room clean and leave it in good condition for the next users, including erasing the whiteboard/blackboard and disposing of trash.
- Please remember to take any personal toys, belongings, or food items with you when you vacate the room.
- Parent room — Our Parent Room is located on level 2 of the OIC in room A2.39 and features everything you'll need to care for your baby, including a comfortable chair, fridge, microwave, and baby change table
Multifaith reflection and prayer room
- Printing and photocopy facilities, managed by IT Services
- Computers — students and staff can log on to computers using their student or staff ID and password. Please see staff in the Service Zones for assistance
- Café— Located in the Ourimbah Information Common.
Mobility Parking
There are dedicated disabled parking spaces for students at who hold a valid RMS Mobility Permit. Dedicated accessible parking is available between the Covered Outdoor Area (CORA) and the Fine Arts Building, as well as in the main carparks.
Library Spaces
Ourimbah Library offers accessible group study rooms, computers, desks, bathrooms, and student kitchens.
Lift Access
Lift access is available to both levels of the Library. Students can access Level 2 of the Library via the lift on Level 1. Lifts can be located using our interactive map.
24-hour Spaces
The Ourimbah Information Common is located across Level 1 and 2 and is a designated 24-hour space for students to use outside of staffed hours.
Please note that outside of Library open hours, Level 2 of the Ourimbah Information Common is not accessible via lift. Please contact Campus Security for assistance, and they will escort you to Level 2 via the lift.
Silent Study Zones
The Ourimbah Library offers two Silent Study Zones: one on Level 1 towards the back against the windows, and another in the Computer Lab on Level 2. These zones provide students with a quiet environment to concentrate on their work without distractions.
Adaptive Technology Centre
Students can access assistive technology, sensory relief and ergonomic furniture in the Adaptive Technology Centre on Level 2. Please see Library staff for directions and assistance in accessing the Adaptive Technology Centre.
Accessible Bathrooms
We have Inclusive and accessible bathrooms on both levels of the Library. All-inclusive and accessible bathrooms across the Library and the University can be located using the interactive map.

Gosford Hospital Library
The Gosford Hospital Library is located on Level 7 in Building A of the Central Coast Clinical School and Research Institute (CCCSRI) at the Gosford Campus. University of Newcastle staff and students based at, or on clinical placement with, the Central Coast Local Health District (CCLHD) and CCLHD staff are able to use the Library. The Library collection includes medical, nursing and health resources.
- There are both collaborative and quiet study spaces in the Library Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 5.00pm
- Study spaces are available outside of Library hours on Level 6 in the Student Hub.
- University PCs and loanable laptops are available in the Student Hub (Level 6) and the Library (Level 7)
- University Wi-Fi is available in the building, including the Library
- Printing and photocopy facilities are available in the Library, managed by UON IT services
- A CCLHD StaffLink account is issued to medical students on clinical placement and allows access to the CCLHD network. StaffLink accounts are monitored and managed by eHealth not the University.
Mobility Parking
The Gosford Hospital has limited car parking facilities. Subject to availability students who do drive, can park in the P2 multi-story carpark accessible from Showground road. Accessible parking spaces are provided on all levels of the multi-storey carpark.

The Gosford Library offers accessible walk-up study rooms, computers and desks. An accessible student kitchen is available outside of the Library and can be located using our interactive map.
Lift Access
Access to the Library is available via a lift from level six. Lifts can be located using our interactive map.
