Coming from overseas
Student Living actively strives to create a vibrant, multicultural on-campus community. Each year Student Living is home to over 1700 residents, including international students that represent more than 56 countries from across the globe.
Living on-campus is unlike anything else. When you live with us, you get to customise your lifestyle to suit your needs in a supportive, convenient and safe environment. Students have the opportunity to choose from 9 different residences, each with their own distinct personality. Within those residences you can also select from a range of living options - including private or shared rooms/facilities (bathroom, dining and cooking) with catered, semi-catered or self-catered options. Student Living also offers a number of Living Environments for students to choose from.
Our Callaghan and Ourimbah campuses are both located less than 20 minutes away from major shopping centres, grocery stores, multiple food and drink options and the beach and all are easily accessible via public transport. Both Callaghan and Ourimbah are serviced by multiple buses and have train stations within walking distance. If you're studying Business and Law at our City Campus, there is a free shuttle bus to get you to and from classes.
In 2018, the ResWorld portfolio was created as part of our ResLife program. ResWorld was designed to help international students form connections with each other, with domestic students and with their home away from home through cultural events and activities.
My favourite thing about ResWorld is being able to reach out to international students living in our residential communities. I feel that international engagement is a key component when you live on-campus as the university is constantly receiving international students who have chosen to come here for their tertiary studies. It's so important to be able to make international students feel part of the community and enhance their experience in living abroad.

The University of Newcastle offers a range of programs for international students to make the transition into the relaxed Australian lifestyle as comfortable and simple as possible. We have a dedicated orientation program called ResFest that aims to introduce our new residents to on-campus living, connect them with their fellow residents and help them feel comfortable in their new home.
International residents also have access to UON Global, the University's dedicated international student team that aims to connect international students with social programs, assist with official documents and University study processes and secure residences both on-campus, off-campus and in Homestay arrangements.
In addition to the award winning ResLife program of activities and support we provide residents, our international resident community can also connect with a number of cultural clubs and faith oriented groups to make new friends and help them feel at home in their new lifestyle. The University of Newcastle also offers a range of formal and informal support services that provide international residents with the opportunity to practice and build confidence in their English language skills.
The University of Newcastle acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands within our footprint areas: Awabakal, Darkinjung, Biripai, Worimi, Wonnarua, and Eora Nations. We also pay respect to the wisdom of our Elders past and present.
