Jointly awarded PhD program

The Jointly Awarded Research Degree (JADD) is a jointly awarded PhD degree by The University of Newcastle and Universiti Putra Malaysia.  The JADD is in discipline areas offered by both institutions. The PhD degree programme is developed and quality assured by both The University of Newcastle and Universiti Putra Malaysia.  The program takes up to four years to complete and students are required to spend a minimum of 12 months at each University.

This exciting program offers students the invaluable opportunity to experience the academic and research culture of two world-class universities.  Upon successful completion, the candidate will receive a single PhD certificate, jointly awarded and recognised by both The University of Newcastle and Universiti Putra Malaysia. The PhD certificate will have the seals of both institutions.

What are the Entry Requirements of the Program?

If you hold a Master's degree or its equivalent, and have achieved a CPGA of at least 2.750 from Universiti Putra Malaysia (or other universities recognised by both institutions), then you are eligible for the program.  If your CPGA is lower than 2.750, you may still be considered for the program, provided you have at least three years working experience, and have done research and also published in the area.  You are also required to fulfil the minimum English language requirement of at least 6.5 for IELTS (minimum 6.0 for each component), or 550 for TOEFL paper based tests.

How Long Will I Need to Complete the Program?

The program will take 2 to 4 years to complete.  You are required to spend at least one year at each institution.

You can specialise in any discipline offered by both The University of Newcastle and Universiti Putra Malaysia.
