IELTS is the International English Language Testing System, the world's most popular high stakes English language test, accepted for study, work and migration.

IELTS is jointly owned by the British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia and Cambridge Assessment English.

The test covers the four macro language skills - listening, reading, writing and speaking.

There are two IELTS Test Modules: the Academic Module and the General Training Module.

The IELTS Academic Module is recommended for candidates who need to meet the English language requirements for academic purposes.

The IELTS General Training Module is suitable for candidates who need the IELTS test for non-academic purposes.

IELTS is accepted as evidence of English language proficiency by over 8,000 organisations worldwide. In the past year more than 2 million tests were taken globally. IELTS is recognised as a secure, valid and reliable indicator of true-to-life ability to communicate in English for education, immigration and professional accreditation.

The organisation where you plan to work or study sets the IELTS requirements. So, before you register for your test, it’s good to check which module is right for you. Click here to find out who accepts IELTS in Australia and what the minimum band scores are for your university or institution.
