Biography

Akhtar holds a doctorate in Civil Engineering from The University of Newcastle, Australia. He also completed an MSc in International Masters of Science in Fire Safety Engineering (IMFSE) from 3 different European Universities: The University of Edinburgh-UK, Lund University-Sweden and Ghent University-Belgium. He has been with the University of Newcastle, Australia as a full-time lecturer from August 2019. He teaches the Fundamentals of Engineering Mechanics and Introduction to geomechanics of the Bachelor of Civil Engineering Program. He is also actively involved in research related to the Experimental and numerical modelling of unreinforced masonry structures, fibre reinforced polymer strengthening, computational mechanics, advanced concrete technology, advanced construction materials for fire protection, finite element analysis of construction materials. He is a member of Engineers Australia of Australia.
