Professor Tony Travaglione

Professor Tony Travaglione

Pro Vice-chancellor and CEO

Professor Tony Travaglione is currently the Pro Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive Officer at the Newcastle Australia Institute of Higher Education (IHE). Prior to this, Tony was the interim Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Global Engagement and Partnerships) at the University of Newcastle. In his role, Tony provides leadership to the Global Engagement and Partnerships division, which engages collaboratively across the globe, building the University’s profile and reputation and creating diverse opportunities for students, staff, alumni and community. Through the Global Engagement and Partnerships Strategy, the division develops partnerships with like-minded institutions and industry to drive high-quality research and world-class education and deeply engages an integrated global community of alumni and friends.

Tony was the Pro Vice-Chancellor of the Faculty of Business and Law from 2017 to 2020. In this role, Tony drove key initiatives to further position the Faculty of Business and Law as a quality, industry-engaged Faculty, and to sustainably deliver innovative learning and teaching opportunities. Tony was previously a member on the International Advisory Board at the Institute of Management Technology in Dubai and was the past President of the Australian Business Deans Council, providing leadership to 39 Business Schools, nationwide.

Associate Professor Kavitha Palaniappan

Academic Director

Kavitha is currently the Academic Director at Newcastle Australia IHE. She holds a doctorate in Environmental Health Engineering from Sri Ramachandra Medical University, India. She has been with the University of Newcastle, Australia, since January 2010, first as an associate lecturer and then as a full-time lecturer from September 2012. She teaches the Occupational Health and Safety components of the BEnvOHS Program. She is also actively involved in research related to the effects of lead exposure on children, mental health illnesses on adults, alternative approaches to enhance sleep, epidemiology of dengue fever, climate change, biofuels and nanotoxicology. She is a member of IOSH and Nanosing Initiative of Singapore.

Jane Ng

Jane Ng

Senior Manager, Human Resources

Jane is currently the Senior Manager, Human Resource and Corporate Governance. She oversees the full of spectrum human resource functions and manages the corporate governance affairs of Newcastle Australia IHE. She holds an honours degree in business administration and certificate in applied psychology. She brings with her more than twenty years of full spectrum human resource experience in both private and public sectors, of which the recent last ten years were in education.
