Dr Peter Tay Buan Huat

Peter Tay has been on the Board of UONS since October 2009. He is currently a Corporate Advisor, engaged in Business Development and as coach to budding business leaders.  He led Singapore Food Industries Limited (SFI) as its President and CEO for 17 years until 2006. He took the company public in 1999, and SFI became the largest food distribution and manufacturing company in Singapore. Under his leadership, SFI transformed itself from a Singapore-centric corporation into one with significant operations in the United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, China and Australia. Mergers and Acquisitions were frequently employed for geographic expansion.

A Colombo Plan Scholar, Dr Tay graduated with Bachelor degrees in Industrial Engineering (Honors) and Economics from the University of Newcastle in Australia in the early 1970s. In 1986, he obtained a MSc in Management (Sloan Fellows Program) from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

He is a Fellow of the UK Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and a Member of the Institution of Engineers, Australia. He also served as the Honorary Queensland Business Ambassador, Singapore.

In recognition of Peter’s instrumental support in building our relationship with alumni in Singapore, support for UON Colombo Plan scholars and developing fruitful business relationships between Australia and Singapore, he is awarded in Honorary Doctor of Engineering.
