Abdul Hamid Sultan’s legal career spans 25 years, during which he has handled cases in various areas of law. His legal expertise hence includes Family Law, Criminal Law, Corporate Law, Civil Law, Workers Compensation Claims, Vehicle and Industrial Accident Claims, Insurance Law, Syariah Law etc. He has helmed his own legal firm, A H Sultan & Associates, for the past 16 years. As a strong believer in community service, He has expanded his volunteer work to include legal clinics at the Muslim Converts Association, Jamiyah, and the Al-Istighfar Mosque.He also serves on the National Cancer Centre Medifund Committee and sit in the Legal Aid Bureau panel offering pro bono legal services. He has co-designed and taught the Environmental and Occupational Health Safety course since 2014 under the auspices of the University of Newcastle, Australia. It has been fulfilling to share his knowledge and practical experience with successive cohorts of students.

Carolyn holds a doctorate in Management from the University of Wollongong, NSW, Australia. She specialises in ethics, responsible leadership, corporate governance, and sustainable development. She teaches courses related to these fields including CSR and Corporate Governance, Strategic Management, Global Leadership, Asian Management, International Management, Business and Sustainable Development, and Culture and Ethics.

Carolyn is a prolific researcher whose research topics include the development of responsible leadership through employee engagement, the role of context and culture in the enactment of responsible leadership, sustainable development as well as the management of society’s grand challenges. Before her move to academia, Carolyn worked for over 30 years in the design industry and as a management consultant.

Edgar has held various positions in the banking, insurance, and property sectors for more than 30 years. He has worked in Standard Chartered Bank and NTUC Income.

Through his accounting practice, he and his team provided  consultancy services to SMEs from service, retail to manufacturing sectors on strategy, finance, and tax issues across various jurisdictions.

He is an integral facilitator of some merger and acquisition activities.

As an associate lecturer and corporate trainer, Edgar is also active in various professional and degree programs with ISCA, ACRA, SID, and premier education providers.

Helena is an Associate/Conjoint lecturer conducting lectures and research in partnership with the Australian and UK universities and organizations.

She has over 30 years of industry experience in the public and private sectors. Her specialised fields are in the areas of human resource management, knowledge management, and research methods. She was involved in promoting a knowledge-sharing culture, developing learning needs analysis, and effective performance appraisal system in a multicultural organisation.

Helena received her PhD in communication and information studies at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in 2018, awarded under a four-year full-time scholarship.  She holds a Masters in Knowledge Management from NTU.

Helena’s research interests focus on human capital development, human resources practices, and organisation behaviour.  She believes in practical research, applying the implications of the theoretical knowledge to the real-life organizational context. Her mixed-methods research works have been published in top tier journals such as Journal of Organizational Effectiveness: People and Performance, and Journal of Documentation.  Her current research projects involve the examination of the role of organisational support in employee commitment and emotion. She is a regular reviewer for Current Psychology journal.

She is an advisor to doctoral students who are industry professionals in change management, flexible work practice, and employee engagement in the workplace.

She is the recipient of Excellent Teaching Award, the Volunteer Service Award and Excellent Service Award for her academic, community voluntary and corporate works.


Name – Irwin Loh

Irwin is a Chartered Accountant (Singapore) and a Fellow with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA). He has a broad range of industry experience–a stint with Deloitte, a strategy consultant at Keppel Corp, and leadership roles within deep-tech start-ups.

Graduating with an MSc. in Applied Finance from Singapore Management University (SMU) as the Top Student, Irwin Loh was selected by his professors for the distinct honour of Valedictorian of the SMU’s Post-Graduate Business School. He is also a 7-time book prize winner for the ACCA professional exams.

Having a decade of lecturing experience under his belt, he has garnered a reputation for never making students memorise concepts. He has honed the ability to simplify and guide students to a full understanding of concepts - meaning that they confidently clear the exams!

Irwin teaches accounting and finance for under-graduates, post-graduates, and professional Chartered Accountancy qualifications.


Name – Mohammed Shakirin Bin Abdul Rashid

Mohammed Shakirin graduated from the highly selective Graduate LLB program at the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) and admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore. Apart from his qualifications in Law, Shakirin has graduated from the London School of Economics with a Master of Science degree in Economic History (Merit). He has also obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the University of London with a First-Class Honours.

Shakirin handles general legal work, including but not limited to matters involving aspects of commercial and civil disputes, family law practice, crime, conveyancing as well as corporate practice. Before starting practice as a lawyer, Shakirin has taught undergraduates in private institutions in Singapore. In his stint as a lecturer, Shakirin recognizes the importance of ensuring that clients understand complex legal situations they are in. He takes time to hear clients’ concerns and assist them in the best way he can.

He has handled cases in the High Court as lead counsel and attained favourable outcomes for his clients. He has also assisted the Egyptian Embassy in providing representation for their citizens here in Singapore.

Sathi is an experienced litigator with over 22 years of standing in the profession. He obtained his master degree from the University of Indiana specialising in Insurance and Intellectual Property laws. He has also received a master’s degree from the University of Sussex specialising in International Criminal Law.

Sathi’s practice spans a wide range of civil, criminal, and commercial litigation as well as mediation and arbitration matters. Sathi has extensive experience in various insurance litigation work, civil and criminal cases. He has vast expertise in handling High Court and Court of Appeal matters. He has also been regularly involved in general litigation, dispute resolution, corporate work, and medical malpractice.

In addition, he specialises in Employment Law, Work Injury Compensation claims, and Workplace Safety and Health Act having regularly advised and represented major corporations as well as high-net -worth individuals. He is adept at handling complex disputes. He has also acted in shareholder and business disputes, breach of fiduciary duties of Company Directors and fraud claims.

Sathi enjoys handling matters involving expert evidence where court craft can be enjoyed at its best. Sathi is a Fellow of the Singapore Institute of Arbitrators and a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. He also sits on the panel of arbitrators of the Law Society's Arbitration Scheme. He lectures at Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) and the University of Newcastle, Australia, on topics such as Workplace Safety, Occupational, Health and Safety and Laws.

Graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Murdoch University, Australia, and Master of Science in Statistics from University of Science, Malaysia. Yee Hwee is currently a full-time lecturer in PSB Academy (Singapore) and a sessional teaching staff of the University of Newcastle (Singapore). She has been teaching mathematical and statistical related subjects, with hands-on application of various software to enhance learning and prepare students to keep up with the current fast-paced IT world.

Prior to entering the Education sector, Yee Hwee spent more than ten years managing various assembly product lines in the subcontractor semiconductor manufacturing environment. In addition to driving a manufacturing team in meeting targeted performance in product quality and cost. She was involved in industrial projects where statistical applications using Six Sigma methodology were employed. Having the passion for passing on the knowledge gained, she decided to pursue a career in teaching.

Angelina TU, an adjunct lecturer/tutor in the Bachelor of Communications faculty, is a seasoned communications professional who has worked with many global brands with one common goal: to provide information, solutions to stakeholders via enriching experiences while creating profitability and profile for companies.

Prior to academic teaching, she cut her teeth in corporate communications work such as developing communication strategies that help advance organisations' efforts to catalyze broad impact through the sharing of effective ideas and practices.

She therefore brings more than three decades of strategic communications experience - on both the client and agency sides. This has allowed her to deliver all levels of strategic counsel and training and garner opportunities for even more creative labor.

Her early days spent in creative departments of global names such as Saatchi and Saatchi Advertising gave her the ropes and exposure to smart, creative thinking and instilled in her an unwavering commitment to work excellence and creative brilliance. Stints at other American multinationals and varied client work have certainly enhanced her commercial capabilities even more.


Name – Felix Cheong

Felix Cheong is the author of 18 books, including six volumes of poetry, a trilogy of satirical flash fiction, and four children’s picture books. His works have been nominated for the prestigious Frank O’Connor Award and the Singapore Literature Prize. He has three books due to be published in Sept 2020.

Conferred the Young Artist Award for Literature in 2000 by the National Arts Council, he holds a master’s in creative writing. He has been a sessional staff with the University of Newcastle since 2009. Currently, he also teaches part-time with Murdoch University, Curtin University and the National University of Singapore.


Name – Ian Ang

Ian Ang is a media director who has worked on game development, television cartoons, broadcast documentaries and interactive design.   Media is Ian’s second nature, starting in school as a freelance cartoonist for the Straits Times, to internet applications in the ‘90s, 3D technologies in the ‘00s, to Virtual Reality in the ‘10s.    His work encompasses both supervision and hands-on production, as well as research and lecturing in these disciplines. In 2019, Ian received an Associate Lecturer Teaching Award.

National medals in football and rugby are stashed away in a bomb shelter. Current hobby alter-egos include the likes of “ianimator” the artist, “ianstrumentalist” the musician, and “ianimal” the nature photographer.

Outside of work and play, Ian has been an avid volunteer in various fields since childhood. When called upon to set up a volunteer class for persons with special needs, Ian began to align his mission to using media engagement and technologies for special needs awareness.

Jason is an adjunct lecturer in the Bachelor of Communication program, where he has taught subjects including multimedia production, journalism, and television production.

He has over a decade of experience in online journalism, advertising, and marketing. He currently heads his creative agency servicing clients in the entertainment industry. He is also the Director of a Singapore-based incubator for creative professionals and sits on the committee of several youth arts organizations as a media advisor.

His areas of academic interest include Asian Cinema, New Media, and Pop Culture Studies.


Name – Khadijah Seron

Khadijah Seron is an Associate Lecturer and currently teaches in the Communication program for the University of Newcastle’s Singapore campus. She is also a module coordinator.

Previously, she taught Journalism in the Communication program at the University at Buffalo’s Singapore campus and Curtin University’s Singapore campus. She has also taught in the School of Interdisciplinary Studies at Ngee Ann Polytechnic and taught communication courses for Personal Development in Nanyang Polytechnic.

Khadijah worked as a freelance TV producer after she left Mediacorp News as a broadcast journalist. Before that, she was a Public Relations and Publication Executive Officer at a social organization.

Over the years, she has taught courses which include World Issues from a Singapore Perspective, Exploring Contemporary Issues, Features and Storytelling, Communication Ethics, World Media Systems, and Screenwriting for Corporate Documentary.

Khadijah has a Bachelor of Arts (Political Science and Philosophy) from the National University of Singapore, Master of Arts (Journalism) from Cardiff University, and an Advanced Certificate in Learning and Performance from the Institute of Adult Learning.

Robert has over three decades’ experience in Public Relations (PR) and Communication. He heads a boutique, PR agency, Majic Communications, which he founded in 2007, which provides strategic counsel, media relations, issues management, crisis communications consultancy, and editorial support to clients from the public, corporate, and ‘not-for-profit’ sectors.

Robert has developed and conducted well-received specialized in-house workshops in media engagements, media publicity, and crisis communication, for official spokespersons, senior and middle management, and corporate communication teams from various Singapore Government ministries, statutory boards, multinational corporations, and the social service sector. He is an adjunct lecturer for the Civil Service College and several tertiary institutions.

Name – Abdul Rahim Leyman

Dr Abdul Rahim Leyman is a Teaching Associate at the University of Newcastle. He has twenty years of experience in teaching electronics engineering and mathematics at various universities in Singapore. His research interests are in the areas of statistical signal processing and its application to underwater target estimation and detection, and biomedical engineering in tumor classification work. His interest also includes in the application higher-order statistics to signal processing and designing cumulant estimators. Currently, he is designing a compact noise canceller hardware system for several noise reduction problems. In his free time, he likes to bike.


Name – Denis Ng

Denis graduated with First Class Honours from The University of Surrey (UK) and obtained his master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering (MSc) and Business Administration (MBA) from The National University of Singapore (NUS) and the Nottingham Business School (UK), respectively. He has over 27 years of experience in the Academia and Telecommunication industries.

Upon graduation from Singapore Polytechnic in 1986, Denis served 6 years with the Republic of Singapore Navy, working on the Navy’s guided missile systems’ maintenance and training.. He then obtained an overseas scholarship from Temasek Polytechnic to pursue his Bachelor's degree in the University of Surrey, UK. After graduation from Surrey in 1993, Denis started his career as a lecturer in Temasek Polytechnic, where he taught in Wireless and Mobile Communications for several years. That eventually led to a position as a Senior Manager in Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel), where he worked on 2G and 3G mobile cellular radio network planning and optimization.

Denis was also involved in regional training of SingTel’s partner networks, such as AIS (Thailand) and Globe Telecom (Philippines), to share his experience in network planning and optimization. Subsequently, he left Singtel in 1998. His RF Systems Design expertise allowed him to work for a few major telecom equipment manufacturers, and finally for Rosenberger (a German telecommunication manufacturer). His expanding expertise in cellular mobile network allowed him to speak in many conferences worldwide over the years.

In recent years, Denis involved in the design of several large-scale inbuilding mobile coverage projects.Notably, the stadiums for the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympics in Brazil, the Domodedovo International Airport in Moscow, the Hong Kong-Shenzhen High-Speed Underground Rail (where he served as Project Director), the upgrade of the MRT line in Bangkok, and the new Jeddah International Airport. In Singapore, Denis was involved in the design of tunnel coverage for the Marina Coastal Expressway (MCE) and several other upcoming new and upgrade projects, particularly for 5G.

Passinate about teaching, Denis in his free time continues to serve as an adjunct lecturer with the University of Newcastle (Australia), where he taught in several subjects, including Signals and Systems, Digital Communications and RF Design, and supervises final year student projects, in the Bachelor degree programme. He also conducts RF training course and serves as a consultant to private companies and organisations.

Fire Safety Manager

Edward Han has been teaching the Bachelor of Construction Management (BCM) program with the University of Newcastle and other professional courses in BCA Academy for the past seven years.

He is proficient in sharing his wealth of knowledge drawn from his professional training and many years of experience from property maintenance and project management.  His extensive portfolio includes various types and scales of projects and properties management across different trades, disciplines, and industries. He has successfully managed and delivered construction projects in Singapore and overseas, such as the USA, China, and other Asia countries.

He is passionate about impacting professional knowledge and preparing students with the relevant practical skills to manage the real challenges at work.


Name – Fakhrur Rozy Harnas

Dr Harnas has more than ten years of experience in civil and environmental engineering. He started his career as a project engineer in a renowned international site investigation company. He performed numerous soil investigation, geotechnical instrumentation, and monitoring works in South-East Asia. He continued his study and specialised in geotechnical problems related to water seepage or flux boundary condition such as rainfall induced slope instability, expansive and collapsing soil, environmental landfill capping etc. He obtained his PhD in civil and environmental engineering in by performing research on application of unsaturated soil mechanics for environmental capping system Currently, he leads the geotechnical and environmental team of Witteveen+Bos in Singapore, working on projects that require both geotechnical and environmental expertise such as building on former landfills, industrial contamination site assessment, and site remediation. He also actively shares his knowledge as an adjunct lecturer at the University of Newcastle, Singapore.


Name – Foong  Swee Yu

Swee Yu has conceptualised and implemented numerous strategic enterprise IT projects in his senior IT leadership position in the public sector for over 25 years. As Director of IT of a statutory board, he spearheaded the ISO 9001-9002 implementation and achieved certification for the IT department. Moreover, he established a comprehensive IT Business Continuity Plan. As Chairman of the IT Security Steering Committee, he played a key role in formulating and implementing organisation’s IT policies, standards, and guidelines for better accountability.

He had undertaken several IT consultancies in the private sector and enjoys using IT as a key enabler to meet business needs.

Swee Yu graduated from the University of Canterbury. He has considerable teaching experience in ICT and business information systems. In addition, he had developed and conducted productivity improvement classes on e-services and e-government to key foreign government delegates under an MFA program.

He is currently the program coordinator and adjunct lecturer for the Bachelor of IT Programme of the University of Newcastle in Singapore. He is a certified project manager and serves as a member of the Certified IT Project Manager (CITPM) Board of Assessors at the Singapore Computer Society.

Ms. Hong Pham started as a Consultant Quantity Surveyor for three years (2007-2010) at Rider Levett Bucknall LLP – one of the three biggest Quantity Surveying companies in Singapore. She handled important projects such as Marina Bay Sands Integrated Resort.

She continued as a lecturer for three years (2010-2013) at BCA Academy. Diploma courses developed and lectured by her include Building Measurement, Procurement Management, Cost Management, and Value Engineering Management. She also developed and managed the Diploma programme Geospatial Information and Technology (DGIT).

Since 2013, she co-founded BRM Strategic LLP – a small Quantity Surveying firm listed in the Public Sector Panel of Consultants. She worked as a managing partner providing quantity surveying services for more than 50 construction projects of various sizes in both the public and private sectors.

Since 2013, she has been an adjunct lecturer at BCA Academy and a facilitator at UON Singapore for the courses ARBE3307, ARBE3309, ARBE2309. In 2018, she received a Commendatory Letter from CEO of UON Singapore for achieving excellent Student Feedback on Course scores.


Name – Joseph Chai

Dr Joseph Chai is an associate lecturer with the University of Newcastle (UON) Singapore, teaching in the undergraduate degree programs in electrical engineering since 2009. His primary academic interest is in the fields of electronics, embedded systems, and engineering design.

In his work in the industry, Dr Chai leads and manages a MedTech manufacturing company specialises in the innovation, development, and the commercialisation of applied medical device technologies used in minimally invasive surgeries and intervention radiology.

Dr Chai strongly believes in the foundation of fundamentals in engineering in tandem with the nurturing of practical know-how, and industrial experience for young engineers-to-be at an earliest possible stage in their career.


Name – Lalit Kumar Verma

Lalit Kumar Verma has diverse experience in engineering and software fields, as well as integration of these two branches of engineering to make a working product. He completed his education in Master of Electronics from Delhi University (year 2002) where he was awarded a university Gold Medal. Then, he completed his PhD degree in electrical and computer engineering from the National University of Singapore (year 2007). The topic of his PhD thesis was to make magnetic nano-structures using nano-sphere lithography. He also attained software skills using Java/C/Swift languages along the way and took entrepreneurship courses in NUS. His work took him around the globe, and he has spent more than six months at a stretch in Taiwan, China, Korea, Germany and the USA.

Working with people of different cultures taught him to be flexible, learn, and accept that everyone has their own learning and working styles according to their abilities. His passion is constantly learning, and his philosophy is that we can train all minds, young and old, through a committed plan, by showing them little steps they can take towards their goals.


Name – Lee Kam Choong

Kam Choong is a technical consultant specializing in the application of computational mechanics for solving industrial problems in the defence and commercial sectors.  In 1998, he was awarded the Defence Technology Prize for pioneering efforts in the development of Underwater Shock Technology for the Ministry of Defence, Singapore.  His core skills include mechanical vibration/shock design, testing and analysis, fluid-structure interactions study, and heat transfer system design and evaluation.

Kam Choong enjoys sharing his experience and knowledge through teaching opportunities in applied mathematics and solid mechanics.  To date, he has taught courses such as CIVL2040, CIVL2060, CIVL4110, CIVL4830, ENGG2500, MATH1110, MATH1120, MATH2310, MATH2420, MECH2430, MECH2450, MECH3440, MECH4400.  In 2018, he was awarded the UON Singapore Excellence Teaching Award for Sessional Academic Staff.

Cher Yam has had 35 years of work experience spanning private and public sectors in construction and property management domains before his retirement. He has served in numerous capacities over the course of his career, including stints in senior management, consulting, and academia.

He has had extensive teaching and academic management experience, having taught and developed curriculum in a local tertiary educational institution. These include crafting syllabi, developing, and teaching built environment related courses for full time and adult learners.

In a senior managerial capacity, he had managed and overseen academic schools and other infra-structural support departments such as IT and Estates and Development, providing him with in-depth knowledge of these sectors.

He holds several academic appointments at present, as an Associate Faculty member for SUSS, an Adjunct Lecturer with the University of Newcastle (Singapore) and the Building & Construction Authority Academy, and Chief Trainer for the SISV Certificate in Building Measurement Course.

Lim Chin Guan is an adjunct/associate lecturer and trainer in PSB Academy, Kaplan Higher Education Singapore, BCA Academy, Nanyang Polytechnic, and SMF Centre for Corporate Training since 1999. He obtained his Master of Engineering (Engineering Technology Management) from the University of South Australia and a Bachelor of Mechanical and Production Engineering from the National University of Singapore. He also is an ACTA-certified corporate trainer.

Chin Guan has delivered undergraduate and postgraduate modules in the areas of Engineering, Business, and Management for the University of Newcastle (AUS), Coventry University (UK), RMIT University (AUS), Murdoch University (AUS), and the University of South Australia. In his teaching, Chin Guan combines his extensive lecturing experience with his entrepreneurial background and professional industry expertise. He establishes an interactive and fun learning environment wherein students are given the confidence to think analytically and convey their thoughts. He is well-liked and respected by students and peers alike. Before working as a lecturer, he had been an accomplished engineering professional with years of R&D experience in product/process design and development.

Chin Guan is currently pursuing a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) with the University of Northampton (UK) (2016 – 2022). His key research is Lean Thinking, Lean Six Sigma, Engineering Business, Operation Management and Business Analytics.

Lim Chong Lye is currently a Senior Lecturer and Module Leader for Mechanical Engineering in the School of Engineering and Technology at PSB Academy. He received his Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Master degree in Mechanical Engineering from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and Doctor of Philosophy in Mechanical Engineering from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). He has many years of experience in teaching undergraduate engineering level.

As a lecturer, he has taught and supervised undergraduate students of engineering and related programs. He has taught a variety of subjects in undergraduate engineering programs. His research interests cover cryogenics, CFD, FEM, CAE, and product design.

Besides his teaching responsibilities, Chong Lye contributes as a member of the Teaching and Learning Committee at PSB Academy.

Matthew has been in in the Building M&E Industry since 1983. He graduated in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Singapore in 1980. Since then, he had experience in Ship Retrofitting, Building Maintenance, and M&E Consultancy.

He was the Chief Engineer at the Imperial Hotel (1983-1985) and Calton Hotel (1985-1990). He was also a Fire Safety Manager when working at Calton Hotel to assist the owner’s Project Manager in all Mechanical & Electrical matters to construct the hotel. He set up and operated the Engineering department, including the opening of the hotel.

As a Senior Engineer at Squire Mech Pte Ltd (1990-1995), he was responsible for managing the Mechanical & Electrical Design, Tender Documentation, Construction Project Management of Commercial/Industrial/Residential.

He also managed the design, documentation, construction projection management when he worked as a Principal Mechanical Engineer at Meinhardt (Singapore) Pte Ltd.

Quek Sze Kheng is previously the Director Investments of Mapletree Logistics Trust Management Ltd., Manager of Mapletree Logistics Trust. His team focuses on sourcing and evaluating suitable assets and opportunities to grow the portfolio, including in markets where MLT does not have a presence. He was previously the General Manager of the Vietnam branch   . He also served as the joint head of the New Markets team and was also posted to China to lead as the Head of the Investment team and General Manager of China. Before  hisposting to China,  he was involved in sourcing and acquiring properties in Singapore and Hong Kong for MLT. Prior to joining as the Manager, he was the Senior Business Development Manager in Ascendas Land (Singapore) Pte Ltd. In that role, he was placed in charge of assessing and evaluating potential acquisitions of properties as well as negotiating and structuring Build-to-Suit and development parks in Singapore, China, and the Philippines. Before this, He was with Jurong International, where his last role was that of Senior Quantity Surveyor based in Suzhou Industrial Park, China. He started his career as a Contract Manager in Lands & Estates Organisation.

Kheng Teck obtained his Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) with Honours from NTU, majored in computer engineering. He received the EDB’s Postgraduate Manpower Program Scholarship and was conferred a Master of Science Degree in Communication Software and Networks from NTU.

Kheng Teck has more than 16 years of teaching experience, with more than 12 years in teaching degree level, particularly in the area of information technology. He was a recipient of the Teaching Award in several institutions, including PSB Academy.

His industry experience is in information technology. Before his conversion to an associate lecturer with a polytechnic, he managed the IT security specialization modules for the Diploma in IT course. Prior to that, he held the position of a network communication manager in a regional shipping firm. He had also gained invaluable experience in various domains of information technology throughout his career, via his roles in a government investment company and a large telecommunications company.

Yew Meng started his career in 1981 as an Executive Engineer at the Department of Civil Engineering of the Housing & Development Board (HDB) – (A division that was developing Civil Engineering works which includes design, calling of tender and supervision of infrastructure, earthworks, roads, sewers, vehicular and pedestrian bridges, etc.)

He was a Senior Lecturer of Civil Engineer & Building Department at Singapore Polytechnic from 1991 to 2009. He taught courses on Civil & Structure Engineering, including design, construction, contract administration, project management, etc. He was the Director of the School of Architecture & the Built Environment from 2010 to 2012, and Director of the School of Communication, Arts & Social Sciences in Singapore Polytechnic.

He was a fellow Singapore Concrete Institute from 1996 to 2015 and was the Vice President from 2010 to 2015.

He has been a self-employed and teaching at the University of Newcastle’s Singapore campus since 2015

Anita Fernandez- Rios has more than 40 years of working experience as an engineer, management system auditor, consultant, trainer, and manager in the fields of environment and occupational health and safety for oil and gas, petrochemical, iron and steel, and copper processing operations, and construction industries in the Asia Pacific region.

In the last 12 years, Anita has worked with companies in their legal compliance and sustainability programs. While working as a consultant or in-house engineer, Anita taught part-time with the University of Newcastle, Singapore campus, on environmental control practices and environmental impact assessment.

Anita finished her bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, the University of Mindanao, Philippines, and took up post-graduate studies in Environmental Engineering at the University of the Philippines, Quezon City, Philippines.

Anita is passionate about sharing her knowledge and experiences with organisations and individuals who want to contribute to the improvement of total quality, environment, health and safety performance of the team, the local company, and global operations.

With over 15 years of professional experience in environmental, occupational health and safety and sustainability (EHS&S), Yen Sen has served more than 80 organizations as a consultant, auditor and trainer. She supports organizations in sustainability reporting, climate change disclosures, compliance audit, due diligence review, and EHS&S related standards such as ISO14001, ISO45001, ISO50001, ISO14064, ISO16745, GRI Standards and IFC Performance Standards on Social and Environmental Sustainability. She integrates EHS&S into business operations with the view that environmental performance, occupational safety and health, and general well-being of workers should and shall contribute to the broader sustainability efforts.

Yen Sen’s track record in the EHS&S field spans a wide range of industries which include real estate and property development, facility management, oil and gas, chemical, power plant, pharmaceutical, electronics, aero-engine repair and overhaul, water and wastewater treatment, precision engineering, manufacturing, 3D printing, academic and research institution, military services, warehouse, retail, sports safety, remediation etc.

Dr Chan was a Commonwealth Colombo Plan scholar who graduated with degrees in Veterinary Biology (Merit Honours) and Veterinary Medicine and Surgery (Ist class Honours) from Murdoch University, Western Australia. He returned to Singapore and obtained his PhD in molecular virology and epidemiology of human papillomaviruses at the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology, National University of Singapore.

In 1999 he moved from laboratory research to clinical epidemiology, becoming the Head of Evidence-based Medicine at the National Medical Research Council’s (NMRC) Clinical Trials and Epidemiology Research Unit (CTERU). Subsequently, he held the positions of Head of Biostatistics and Deputy Director. In 2005, he became the Director of the Singapore Centre (Cochrane Singapore) of the Cochrane Collaboration. He also helped to set up the National Registries of Disease Office, serving as the Head of Scientific Management.

When CTERU was incorporated and expanded into the Singapore Clinical Research Institute, he served as Head of Epidemiology and is currently the Chief Scientific Officer, overseeing a team of biostatisticians, epidemiologists, and research monitors. He is also an Associate Professor at the Duke-NUS Medical School, where he teaches critical appraisal of the clinical research literature, clinical research methodology, evidence synthesis, and systematic reviews. He and his team have organized and taught over 300 clinical research methods workshops locally and abroad. He also serves as a NMRC grant peer reviewer and a committee member for research grant review, research manpower development, and clinical research ethical review.

As an accredited trainer with the British Occupational Hygiene Society, Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (UK), and The National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (UK), Zephan has trained many occupational hygienists and Health and safety professionals in Singapore and the region.

He also actively volunteers for various professional associations, including serving as Vice-chairman in the IOSH Singapore branch, executive committee member with The Occupational and Environmental Health Society, and Head of membership committee with the National Safety Council of Singapore.
