Women in Master of Business Administration (WiMBA) Scholarship

The Newcastle Business School is proud to support aspirational and high-achieving females with the Women in MBA (WiMBA) scholarship program.

What is WiMBA

The WiMBA initiative aims to redress the gender equity imbalance by offering scholarships to female students in partnership with leading organisations. WiMBA provides the leadership skills and strategic perspective to move female employees into senior management and executive positions.

Working together to support women in business

Organisations who partner with the WiMBA Scholarship program show their commitment in addressing gender diversity in leadership, help grow the female talent pipeline and foster positive economic growth for the Newcastle region. An MBA has a significant impact on career pathways and is particularly acute in driving middle-managers towards executive roles. The WiMBA Scholarship is designed to promote the advancement of women who are ready to take their place among Australia’s senior corporate community.

    Scholarship fees and support

Female students undertaking the WiMBA Scholarship are expected to complete an MBA degree, part-time, within four years of the date of enrollment. The student must be able to attend all classes at the Newcastle City Precinct (NUspace) location. Students looking to undertake the WiMBA Scholarship cannot undertake the MBA program at the Sydney, Gosford or Singapore location and cannot undertake courses online. All course must be undertaken, part time (1 course per trimester), in face to face mode at the Newcastle City Precinct.

Female students undertaking the WiMBA Scholarship for the Executive Master of Business Administratiion (EMBA) program are expected to complete all classes at the University of Newcastle Sydney Precinct.

The partnership has three key components:

    1. Financial – the UON and the industry partner will pay 25% of the cost of an MBA program and the student will pay the remaining 50% of the MBA Program.
    2. On-the-ground – the employer will provide practical support to enable the recipient to attend class, undertake additional study and group work and complete assignments.
    3. Guidance and advice – the employer will pair recipients with in-house mentors/sponsors to provide them with guidance, support and advice throughout their MBA program and also in helping them to develop their post-MBA career pathway

    WiMBA Patron

WiMBA students will meet twice annually with the WiMBA Patron, Dr Eileen Doyle to discuss their studies; to see how their career is progressing and to network with other WiMBA Scholarship holders.
