Physics

The Discipline of Physics is a well-established and highly collegial academic unit with a history of delivering world-class research outcomes, excellence in Physics teaching and nationally recognised programs of community outreach and service. Physical Sciences (2-digit code) at the University of Newcastle was rated with the highest possible score of ‘well above world standard’ in the latest Excellence of Research in Australia (ERA) report. The fields of research (4-digit codes) ‘Astronomical and Space Sciences’ and ‘Other Physical Sciences’ (which comprises mainly Medical Physics in Newcastle), were also awarded ‘well above world standard’. The Discipline of Physics has a focus on disciplinary and transdisciplinary research that encompasses scholarship and industry engagement, working at the interfaces of academic disciplines and with industry to deliver solutions to global issues.
