What is Engineering?
Engineering or the process of solving problems using maths and science, is part of every day life.
Welcome to the School of Engineering, a diverse school in the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment.
We offer a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs in the areas of Aerospace Systems, Chemical, Civil, Environmental, Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering, Renewable Energy and Surveying. The School is organised in three major Disciplines, who each have a Head of Discipline:
Two new programs are being offered from 2019: A Bachelor of Renewable Energy Engineering (Honours)and a Bachelor of Aerospace Systems Engineering (Honours). In our programs students will gain real-world insights, connecting with industry through projects, guest lecturers and mentoring.
A major strength of the School is its excellent research performance. The school is the home of three Priority Research Centres (Advanced Particle Processing; Energy, and Geotechnical Engineering) as well as University Research Centres in Bulk Solids and Particulate Technologies , Multi-Phase Processes, and Infrastructure Performance and Reliability.
Our School and staff have strong links with industry, through sponsored undergraduate students, guest lectures and research collaborations including part-sponsored academic positions. Several of our academic staff offer their consulting services to industry through Newcastle Innovation, the University's research and consulting organisation.
There is always excitement and challenge when you are working and interacting with intelligent busy people. Those are the feelings you will experience when participating with the staff and students in the School of Engineering at Newcastle.
Professor Mark Jones
