ASPERA Conference

School of Creative Industries, University of Newcastle, NSW, Australia

ASPERA and the University Of Newcastle's School of Creative Industries proudly present the 2021 ASPERA conference, The Business – Valuing the Screen Industry, which will be held at the University of Newcastle’s city campus (NU Space) from Wednesday 16th - Friday 18th June.

Established in 2004, ASPERA is the peak discipline body of Australian tertiary institutions teaching and researching film, video, television and new media as screen-based production practices. The ASPERA Annual Conference is hosted each year by one of our member institutions. It is an opportunity for member delegates, academics and practitioners working in the field of screen production education and research to share insights on a range of pertinent issues and develop networks for ongoing and future collaborations.

The conference is both a chance for networking between aligned academics and an important part of ASPERA’s program to build research capacity and strong pedagogical frameworks for the screen production education and research sector. The invitation to present on teaching practice, creative practice and research that is relevant to academics working at tertiary institutions in screen production disciplines is extended to the international community of screen production scholars and practitioners.

The key aim of the conference is to encourage a fresh look at the value of the screen business – also known as ‘The Biz’ – from a range of perspectives, and explore how our research, our practice and our teaching contributes to the broader value of the Screen Industry.
