Establishment
This award was established in 1999 to support academically excellent Year 12 students who intend to enrol at the University of Newcastle in the year following their Higher School Certificate (HSC) studies.
The award does not require an application as it is based on the nomination submitted by your High School during your HSC year.
Invitations to High School Principals and Careers Advisers to nominate their recipient will be sent via email in August this year.
Scholars who were awarded this in their HSC year will be eligible to received a $2000 scholarship if accepting an offer of admission and enrolling with University of Newcastle the following year.
Award recipients are welcome to apply for and eligible to receive other University of Newcastle scholarships. If you have received this award and also been nominated as Dux of your regional high school, we encourage you to apply for the University of Newcastle Regional High School Dux Scholarship.
Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, you will need to:
- Have been nominated by a High School qualifying for the Regional and Rural Preference Scheme during your HSC year.
- Be enrolled in any year of any undergraduate degree at the University of Newcastle.

Required documents will be listed on the ‘Your Documents’ page of your application. The application portal accepts PDF only. A maximum of 3 PDF smaller than 5 MB can be added per document type upload field.

Benefit
All nominated recipients will be presented with a certificate and letter of offer during their HSC year.
The scholarship provides a benefit of a total of $2000 to be paid in a lump sum payment after semester one census date, in April.
Selection
Applications are not submitted for this award. Selection of the recipients is on the basis of academic merit, as advised by participating secondary schools and colleges.
The advertised number of scholarships available is indicative only and the university aims to support all students who go on to enrol, subject to approved funding arrangements.
