HPREP #4 – CONSUMER AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT IN RESEARCH
The University of Newcastle [via Research Advantage] in collaboration with Hunter New England and the Central Coast Local Health District’s will deliver the
Health Professionals Research Education Program
A series of presentations/seminars have been developed to run from March to November in 2020 - providing information and practical advice for our Clinician Researchers, Clinicians, Clinician Managers and Conjoints.
This health specific information session will focus on CONSUMER AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT IN RESEARCH
Join us for a conversation led by Professor Nicholas Goodwin that examines why involving consumers and community members in health and medical research benefits the quality and direction of research.
Professor Debbie Plath will provide an overview of the current evidence, value and some practical how to steps/resources.
We will be joined by Doctor Anthony Brown who will tease out why consumer involvement in research translation aims to develop more relevant, responsive and effective health services. Anthony will use some recent mapping examples and show how these have helped identify and support consumer involvement in research. Health Consumers NSW continues to develop training opportunities for consumers and researchers, including case studies of consumer representatives’ experiences as co-designers or co-researchers in research projects.
This will be followed by some practical examples and a question and answer panel that will explore how the expertise of people with lived experiences of health conditions, and the use of associated health services, is drawn upon in the conceptualisation, design, implementation and translation of health research. The purpose of consumer involvement in research translation is to develop more relevant, responsive and effective health services that may impact their health and wellbeing.
