Professor Abul Shamsuddin

Abul Shamsuddin is Professor of Finance at the University of Newcastle. He received his Masters and PhD from Simon Fraser University, Canada. Abul has served as Head of Newcastle Business School, Assistant Dean, Director of Postgraduate Studies, and Head of the Accounting and Finance Discipline. Abul has held visiting appointments at the Australian National University, Monash University and Simon Fraser University, among others. He is Co-leader of the Centre for Asset Pricing and Corporate Governance Studies.

Today's uncertain economic climate, global competition in the electronic marketplace, and dynamic environment in which businesses are operating have influenced industries to continuously explore alternative ways, for instance, to increase productivity, quality, process safety, in addition, to gain economic, societal, and environmental sustainability. This has led to the development of smart and intelligent systems for measuring, monitoring, evaluating, and disseminating real-time information to satisfy different decision-makers. Professor Shah Miah’s current research developments are concerned with data analytics solution design and integrating various emerging and disruptive technologies to meet these demands. Shah’s research is also related to the other contemporary aspects such as Industry 4.0, Data-driven management, and decentralized open environment for industrial growth and sustainability, by recreating realization of human value-sensitive and sophisticated solutions for our brighter digital futures.

Dr Motta’s research focus is the politics of subaltern resistance, with particular reference to Latin America and the reinvention of new forms of popular politics, political subjectivities and ways of life that seek to transcend neoliberal. She has written about the Latin American Third Way Governments of the Concertacion in Chile and the Workers' Party in Brazil in relation to their role in stabilising and normalising neoliberal hegemony.
