The 2017 NSW Mining Health, Safety, Environment and Community Conference

The 2017 NSW Mining Health, Safety, Environment and Community (HSEC) Conference was held on 14-16 August at the Crowne Plaza, Hunter Valley. Following the launch of the Blueprint for the Management of Overweight and Obesity in the NSW Mining industry last year, this year’s conference launched the new RESHAPE initiative which has been developed in response. The prevalence of overweight and obesity among NSW coal miners is 83.4%, which is markedly higher than the general population. The RESHAPE program was developed by Ethos Health, the NSW Minerals Council, researchers from the CRHS and industry representatives, as a whole of population approach to addressing overweight and obesity. The NSW Minerals Council is committed to a sustained approach to fostering healthy and productive workplaces that support the prevention and management of overweight and obesity.
