Dr Nancy Cushing completed her PhD thesis on the history of Newcastle in 1995 and has been researching and publishing on the city ever since. In 2015, she published two books, Smoky City, A History of Air Pollution in Newcastle, New South Wales with Howard Bridgman (Hunter Press) and Radical Newcastle, co edited with Erik Eklund and team member James Bennett (NewSouth Press).

Dr Julie McIntyre
Dr Julie McIntyre is a regional specialist with a particular interest in histories of migration and wine growing. She is the author of the award winning First Vintage: Wine in colonial New South Wales (NewSouth Press, 2012) and co-author of a short history of Fort Scratchley. Julie is currently undertaking a Linkage project entitled “Vines, Wine and Identity: The Hunter Valley NSW and Changing Australian Taste” in partnership with the Hunter Valley Wine and Tourism Association and the Newcastle Regional Museum.
