InkJet Printing Organic Thin Film Transistor (OTFT) and Organic Photovoltaic

This project aims to investigate novel polymeric materials that have excellent electronic qualities in order to produce high performance flexible printed organic thin-film transistors (OTFT) and organic photovoltaic (OPV) cells. .  To do so, it is essential to produce high quality aqueous polymeric ink that can be used to print the active layer for both OTFT and OPV devices. Two methods have been using to prepare semiconducting polymer films through pre-formed polymer nanoparticulate dispersions. Nanoparticles can be prepared both by a surfactant-assisted mini-emulsion method and by a precipitation approach. These studies show that, using both methods, it is possible to form stable suspensions with a tunable nanoparticle size, thus offering a new pathway to fabricate OTFT and OPV active layers with controlled polymer domain size and thin film morphology.
