Charge Mobility Measurement and Modelling
Glen Shennan (PhD Candidate)
Charge Mobility
My work centres around experimental methods of determining a property called charge mobility in organic conductors, principally those used to make organic solar cells. Charge mobility is a measure of the speed at which charged particles like electrons move inside the solar cell itself. Mobility measurements can also be used to illuminate some of the other unique characteristics of the way electrons move through organic conductors.
Numerical Modelling
To accompany experimental measurements I also model charge transport in solar cells using numerical techniques implemented on a computer. By solving the equations which govern the movement of electrons inside the devices we can reproduce experimental results to a high degree of accuracy, allowing us to extract details which would otherwise be difficult or impossible to measure.
