A Community of Practice across Pre-undergraduate and Undergraduate Mathematics at UON
This project focuses upon two elements of key importance to Australia’s future and to the University of Newcastle: Mathematical Sciences and the Enabling Pathway into Mathematics and Statistics courses underpinning STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Degrees.
We will interview mathematics and statistics educators working in both pre-undergraduate and undergraduate mathematics education at the University of Newcastle, with a two-fold aim: to learn more about effective teaching practices in pre-undergraduate and undergraduate mathematics education, and to grow a community of practice across the various organisational units involved, specifically the Enabling Unit, the Newcastle International College, the School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, and the Centre for Teaching and Learning.
A strengthened community of practice across these units will provide opportunities to better support student transitions into successful undergraduate learning in the mathematical sciences, and subsequent successful careers.
Dr Kepert will work with Dr Mumtaz Hussain, Dr Judy-anne Osborn and Miss Rebecca Smith.
The University of Newcastle acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands within our footprint areas: Awabakal, Darkinjung, Biripai, Worimi, Wonnarua, and Eora Nations. We also pay respect to the wisdom of our Elders past and present.
