The second University of Newcastle joint African Postgraduate Student Association (APSA) and the Centre for African Research, Engagement and Partnerships (CARE-P) multidisciplinary conference was held in October 2021.

The Centre for African Research, Engagement and Partnerships (CAREP) is involved in two exciting research projects that highlight the University’s engagement priorities especially infinding practical ways to build stronger and more inclusive communities and improving the health and wellbeing of people here in our regions and around the world.

Many students of African origin who joined the University of Newcastle over the past five years are part of the more than 3000 graduates celebrating their significant academic achievements in graduation ceremonies this December at Callaghan.  Their story is one of endurance.

The University of Newcastle and CARE-P hosted the Ghana (African) High Commissioner to Australia and the Indo Pacific, Dr Joseph Coffie-Agoe and his team on their visit UON/CARE-P to deepen relationships

Africa Day is celebrated every year on 25 May since 1963 in African countries and by Africans around the world to commemorate the foundation of the Organisation of African Unity.

In 2020, CARE-P held its inaugural Project Pitch Fest, where like minded individuals shared opportunities and projects they are involved in, in Africa.

CARE-P executive member Professor Shirley Randell AO has been liaising with both, Dr James Gashumba, Vice Chancellor of Rwanda Polytechnic, and Eng Pascal Gatabazi, the Director General of the Workforce Development Authority, who are the key leaders driving Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) developments in Rwanda.

The Centre for African Research, Engagement and Partnerships (CARE-P) was a lead agency in partnership with the Mental Health and Wellbeing Foundation of Ghana in securing DFAT funding to redesign/refurbish the VIP ward and to also construct a 10 seater toilet block at the Cured Leper’s Village, Godokpe-Ho in the Volta Region of Ghana.

CARE-P is leading a multi-agency submission through the Australian Direct Aid Program to build a 10 seater communal toilet block in a Recovered Leper’s Village in Ho, Ghana West Africa. Supported through Australian High Commission Ghana and Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

The University Of Newcastle's continued collaboration with The University of Rwanda.

Funding support from the Federal Government’s Endeavour Leadership program has enabled a group of 10 University of Newcastle students to travel through Kenya.
