Commercialisation and Intellectual Property

Newcastle Innovation is the University of Newcastle's technology transfer arm.

The business development and technology transfer teams identify and commercialise new technologies developed by our researchers so that business, industry and the community can benefit and profit from our front line research.

We do this by linking the University's research expertise to industry and securing investment to commercialise innovative technology.

For UON researchers, an invention disclosure should be made when something new and potentially useful to industry has been conceived or developed, or when unusual, unexpected or novel research results have been achieved.

The easiest way to disclose an invention or novel idea is to contact the Newcastle Innovation team. NI will then guide you through the process of assessing and protecting the associated Intellectual Property.

Newcastle Innovation then assists inventors in linking with industry and investors to exploit the Intellectual Property with the goal achieving a commercial outcome.

For government, industry and business NI's services can leverage a competitive edge in the global market by providing access to expert knowledge and state-of-the-art research facilities within UON to solve problems, troubleshoot and develop products and services.

Ranking in the top 3% of universities world wide and Australia's top 10 universities for research, we can meet your needs by bringing together researchers from across academic disciplines to build productive relationships.
