PhD Scholarship Offered in Gender and Judging

Closing Date: 31 October 2018

PhD Scholarship

Expressions of interest are sought from applicants wishing to conduct research that unites the following areas of focus: • Gender and judging • Judicial diversity • Legal reasoning • Feminist institutionalism • Feminist political and legal theory

This opportunity will interest applicants who wish to contribute to the inter-disciplinary research collaboration of Dr Kcasey McLoughlin (feminist legal theory) and Professor Jim Jose (feminist political theory). The successful applicant will work with their supervisors to develop a research topic that contributes to national and international debates about the relationship between gender and judging. Recent judicial appointments in Australia and elsewhere mean that there is considerable scope to interrogate the implications of judicial diversity in various jurisdictions.  The applicant will be based at the University of Newcastle, Australia.
