VCs HDR Training Scholarships
The Vice-Chancellor's Higher Degree by Research Training Scholarships are a prestigious award to support selected applicants, who have demonstrated a proven capacity for research, academic merit and potential to develop the requisite skills to make an ongoing impact in their academic careers.
These scholarships are a new category of scholarship that include the opportunity for an academic training experience beyond the research experience. The educational framework associated with this scholarship scheme allows for a tailored experience for each candidate. It will include working closely with UON academic staff to develop a portfolio of academic experiences – this may include opportunities to develop competencies in conducting tutorials, lab demonstrations, effective educator practice, assessment design, and the use of transformative technologies – as part of the University’s multifaceted and holistic approach to learning and teaching.
To be eligible for these scholarships, prospective applicants must be nominated by a UON academic. For each round, UON academics are limited to one nomination each. Nominations will only be considered for prospective HDR candidates.
There will be a maximum of 90 scholarships, awarded across two rounds. The first round will consist of up to 41 scholarships, with up to one scholarship for the Wollotuka Institute and the remaining scholarships divided equally between the five faculties. If an academic’s nominee is successful in the first round of scholarships, that academic will not be eligible to submit a nomination in the second round.
The relevant dates for the first round are as follows:
- Closing Date for Nominations (by UON academics): 31 March, 2019
- Shortlisted Nominees Invited to Formally Apply: 3 June, 2019
- Closing Date for Shortlisted Nominees to Submit Formal Applications: 16 June, 2019
- Latest Outcome Date: 1 October, 2019
- Latest Commencement Date: 31 March, 2020
Prospective applicants must contact a potential supervisor to express their interest. The UON academic may then provide further information on the nomination process. All available HDR supervisors are locatable via Find a Supervisor.
